Associations for International Education and Curriculum Resources

With the growing recognition of the importance of international education, more and more resources are becoming available to educators. Explore the web sites below. A teaching model used around the world that pushes students to become proficient in at least two languages think critically instead of regurgitating memorized answers and learn from a global perspective by studying other cultures.

Global SchoolNet
Global SchoolNet's mission is to support 21st century learning. Its programs engage teachers and students in meaningful project learning exchanges with people around the world to develop literacy and communication skills, foster teamwork and collaboration, encourage workforce preparedness and create multi-cultural understanding. Global SchoolNet's "Doors to Diplomacy" educational program encourages middle school and high school students around the world to produce web projects that teach others about the importance of international affairs and diplomacy. Each student team member of the winning "Doors to Diplomacy" Award team receives a $2,000 scholarship, and the winning coaches' schools each receive a $500 cash award. Click here to read more.

Global Nomads Group
The Global Nomads Group’s PULSE brings students face-to-face with global issues, such as the crisis in Darfur, nuclear weapons, and the environment. The PULSE programs also include two international videoconferences covering landmines (live from Mozambique) and the Arab world and the U.S.  The Nomad group also has a newsletter.

iEARN
iEARN is the International Education and Resource Network-Connecting Youth-Making a Difference. Started in 1988, iEARN is a non-profit global network that enables teachers and young people to use the Internet and other new technologies to collaborate on projects that both enhance learning and make a difference in the world.

Alliance for International Education
The Alliance for International Education focuses on educating for global citizenship.The Alliance brings together all those who are committed to advancing international and intercultural understanding through education. It promotes collaborative ventures that enhance the learning of relevant concepts, skills and values.

NAFSA
NAFSA is an association of individuals worldwide advancing international education and exchange and global workforce development. NAFSA serves its members and their institutions and organizations by setting and upholding standards of good practice, providing training and professional development opportunities, providing networking opportunities, and advocating for international education.

AIEA Association of International Education Administrators
This association promotes International Education by member exchange of ideas, sharing strategies and convening conferences. This is a membership organization.

International Baccalaureate
The International Baccalaureate (IB) offers high quality programs of international education to a worldwide community of schools. The three programs for students ages 3 to 19 help develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills to enable learners to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world. There are more than 566,000 IB students at 2,122 schools in 125 countries.

Council of International Schools
The Council of International Schools (CIS) is a not-for-profit association of schools and post-secondary institutions working collaboratively for the continuous improvement of international education.

International Primary Curriculum
The IPC focuses on academic and personal development, and the development of a global awareness. Learning should be active and engaging, and, above all meaningful to children. That's why we've built tried and tested brain friendly learning into every unit of work.

International Curriculum
Hodder Murray offers a wide range of resources specifically for international schools teaching the Checkpoint curriculum, IGCSE, and IB. They also have a number of books which feature on the IGCSE suggested reading list.

Newspaper Pictorials: World War I Rotogravures
A time line of images capturing World War I “before and after the United States became involved” are provided, along with written details highlighting life at home and a far during this time period.

Edinformatics
This web site provides educational databases, access to all state curriculums and links to international and specific discipline curriculum areas, i.e. NCTM math curriculum standards.

The Center for International Education
The Center for International Education (CIE) is part of the Department of Education Policy, Research and Administration (EPRA) in the School of Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. CIE is closely integrated with the academic program in International Education offered by EPRA. Together they offer graduate level professional training, service and research opportunities in the areas of International Development Education, Education Policy and Leadership, and Internationalizing U.S. Education.

Training is provided through both degree programs and non-degree programs at the University or in the field. Service learning opportunities are typically provided through funded projects and consulting opportunities. Research and development activities are often linked to projects and training programs being carried out by CIE.
